We are proud to support clients with Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) through treatment and patient education. We understand the unique needs of patients, and we know GBS can be painful and progressive as it causes unsettling nerve damage. However, the right combination of immune therapy can shorten the length of the disease and help maintain muscle mass. We’re here to listen, guide and give patients the resources they need to successfully manage their treatments. If cost is a barrier to therapy, we investigate all possible options to uncover funding. Throughout therapy, we coordinate between every member of the care team, creating lines of communication that make everyone’s job a little easier.

Guillain-Barré Syndrome

One of the first steps after a Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) diagnosis is understanding the condition. The information on this site and linked sites is not meant to replace your physician’s advice, medical care or a diagnosis. If you have questions about your disease, please ask your prescriber.

Overview

Guillain-Barré syndrome is a neurological disorder where the body’s immune system attacks the nervous system. These attacks destroy the nerves so they cannot send signals, resulting in difficulty walking and general weakness in the patient’s limbs. In more severe instances, facial muscles and breathing can be affected.

While GBS can be debilitating, the vast majority of patients begin to experience recovery within six weeks. Although many patients experience a degree of ongoing muscle weakness, the risk of relapse is extremely low. The cause is unknown, but many patients have an infection before contracting GBS.
