Protect Your Immune System: Clean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Naturally

Some chronic health conditions can make it harder for your body to fight off infections. Washing your hands properly is a great first step in preventing unhealthy bacteria from spreading — but you shouldn’t stop there. It’s equally important to thoroughly clean your fruits and vegetables. You can protect yourself from infection by spraying or washing your produce following the instructions below.
DIY Fruit and Veggie Spray and Wash
Ingredients
Spray
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons baking soda
- 1 cup water
Wash
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 2 tablespoons salt
- Water to fill a sink or large bowl
Directions
Spray
- 1. Mix lemon juice, baking soda, and water in a spray bottle.
- 2. Spray produce and let sit for 2–5 minutes.
- 3. Lightly scrub produce with a clean sponge or brush.
- 4. Rinse produce in cool water and pat dry with a clean towel.
Wash
- 1. Fill a clean sink or large bowl with water.
- 2. Mix in vinegar and salt, stir until the salt has dissolved.
- 3. Soak produce for 15–20 minutes.
- 4. Rinse produce in cool water and pat dry with a clean towel.
