Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy Offers Haitian Relief Aid with Donated Prescriptions and Financial Contributions
26 January 10
Swartz Creek, Mich, January 26, 2010- Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy, the nation’s largest privately held specialty pharmacy company servicing the needs of patients and physicians nationwide, announces it has made a donation of prescription medications and financial assistance through employee outreach efforts to support the Haitian medical relief activities of Paul Vanek, M.D., a Cleveland area physician.
Early last week, Dr. Vanek contacted Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy’s Kelly Burke, RPh, from the Company’s Cleveland pharmacy, to learn if Diplomat could assist with the Haitian relief medical fund. Dr. Vanek had volunteered his medical services and was preparing to travel to Haiti to assist the injured population. However, he needed a pharmacy to supply the medications necessary to treat the victims.
Ms. Burke took immediate action and, between community donations and funds donated by local Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy employees, $3000 was raised within days. Diplomat’s corporate headquarters then purchased the needed drugs at cost. Ultimately, the donation translated into thousands of doses of antibiotics, antihistamines and other drugs necessary to help the earthquake victims. These medications (along with donated nutritional supplements) were shipped to Haiti on January 20th and arrived in time for use by Dr. Vanek and other local physicians who had set up a makeshift medical clinic for earthquake victims and survivors.
“I was so pleased by the immediate response of my Cleveland colleagues at Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy to raise money for Dr. Vanek’s efforts and for Diplomat headquarters’ generous and quick decision to provide medications at cost,” says Ms. Burke. “Together, we made a difference locally and globally.”
